A track propelled vehicle, with or without armor protection or fixed armament, for use in amphibious landing operations to carry personnel or cargo on rough waters, over coral reefs, and other obstacles. Excludes ASSAULT VEHICLE, FULL TRACKED, AMPHIBIOUS; and CARRIER, CARGO, AMPHIBIOUS.

CARRIER,CARGO,AMPHIBIOUS

A track propelled carrier, designed to carry a small number of troops or cargo across calm waters, principally rivers and swamps. May also be used as a prime mover. See also CARRIER, CARGO. Excludes LANDING VEHICLE, TRACKED.

RECOVERY VEHICLE,FULL TRACKED

A self-propelled vehicle, usually armored, having boom and power winch equipment, designed primarily to recover disabled tanks and other vehicles in combat areas. It may also be used for lifting engines, transmissions, and the like, during repair of disabled vehicles. The item may be equipped with armament and/or gun mounts.

CARRIER,PERSONNEL,FULL TRACKED

An armored combat carrier which may or may not have armanent.

TANK,COMBAT,FULL TRACKED

A self-propelled, heavily armored, offensive vehicle having a fully inclosed revolving turrent with one major weapon. It may mount one or more machine guns. Excludes self-propelled weapons.

SLED,SELF-PROPELLED

A powered vehicle supported on pontoons with endless tracks, skis or runners and pontoons with endless tracks, deriving its traction power from the endless tracks. It is designed to transport personnel and/or cargo over snow covered terrain.

CARRIER,CARGO

An unarmored carrier, usually having a watertight hull, primarily designed to transport a small number of personnel or cargo. See also CARRIER, CARGO, AMPHIBIOUS; CARRIER, PERSONNEL, FULL TRACKED and LANDING VEHICLE, TRACKED.

CHASSIS,CARGO CARRIER

A self-propelled tracked vehicle undercarriage consisting essentially of the frame and power train, with or without cab, designed primarily to mount a suitable body for transporting supplies and/or equipment, over sand, snow, ice, swamps or difficult terrain.

GUN,ANTITANK,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. It is designed for use against tanks or other armored vehicles.

GUN,FIELD ARTILLERY,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. It is designed for use as a mobile artillery weapon.

HOWITZER,HEAVY,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon, with a medium muzzle velocity and a curved trajectory, mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. The bore diameter is larger than 200 millimeters. It is designed for use as a mobile artillery.

HOWITZER,LIGHT,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon, with a medium muzzle velocity and a curved trajectory, mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. The bore diameter is over 30 millimeters through 125 millimeters. It is designed for use as a mobile artillery or infantry weapon.

HOWITZER,MEDIUM,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon, with a medium muzzle velocity and a curved trajectory, mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. The bore diameter is 126 millimeters through 200 millimeters. It is designed for use as mobile artillery.

CARRIER,81 MILLIMETER MORTAR

A lightly armored, amphibious, full or half tracked carrier designed to transport a MORTAR, 81 MILLIMETER and a crew to operate the mortar.

CARRIER,107 MILLIMETER MORTAR

A lightly armored, amphibious, full or half tracked carrier designed to transport a MORTAR, 107 MILLIMETER and a crew to operate the mortar.

CARRIER,FLAME THROWER

A lightly armored, amphibious, full-or half-tracked carrier on which is mounted a FLAME THROWER, MECHANIZED, MAIN ARMAMENT.

ASSAULT VEHICLE,FULL TRACKED,AMPHIBIOUS

A self-propelled, lightweight, lightly armored vehicle, with or without an open top revolving turret, designed to traverse all types of inland terrain including waterways. It is equipped with light armament and may be used to transport a small number of personnel. Excludes LANDING VEHICLE, TRACKED.

CARRIER,RECONNAISSANCE,FULL TRACKED

A self-propelled, lightly armored vehicle equipped with secondary armament. It has amphibious capabilities for inland waterways, has speed, mobility, and quietness of operation that is required for scouting, security, command, and reconnaissance missions. It may be air-dropped. It is not designed to engage or assault the enemy in combat. Excludes ASSAULT VEHICLE, FULL TRACKED, AMPHIBIOUS.

GUN,AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon, mounted on a self-propelled vehicle, equipped with fire control device(s) to detect and trace aerial targets. It is primarily designed for use as a mobile weapon for actively combating hostile air targets from the ground. It may be a single or multiple barreled weapon, the bore of which must be at least 20 millimeters.

TRACTOR,FULL TRACKED,ARMORED DOZER-SCRAPER COMBINATION

A self-propelled amphibious, multipurpose combat vehicle deriving its traction power from two endless flexible tracks. It is primarily used as a construction vehicle and is capable of bulldozing, rough grading, excavating, hauling, and winching operations related to road construction. It may also be used as a dump truck, cargo carrier, personnel carrier, and prime mover. It can ford shallow streams at normal speeds with the capability of negotiating deep, still or slow-current water, at slow speeds. Excludes TRACTOR, FULL TRACKED, LOW SPEED; and TRACTOR, FULL TRACKED, HIGH SPEED.

CARRIER,AIR DEFENSE MISSILE SYSTEM

An armored, full tracked carrier which has been modified to transport a self-contained air defense missile system.

CARRIER,120 MILLIMETER MORTAR

A lightly armored, amphibious full or half tracked carrier designed to transport a MORTAR, 120 MILLIMETER and a crew to operate the mortar.

CARRIER,AMBULANCE

An armored carrier without any armanent designed and equipped for rendering first aid to and transporting wounded and injured personnel. For vehicles designed to provide advanced trauma care and transportation of wounded personnel see CARRIER, ADVANCED MEDICAL TREATMENT. Excludes CARRIER, ADVANCED MEDICAL TREATMENT.

CARRIER,AMMUNITION,TRACKED

A highly mobile, full-tracked and fully armored vehicle capable of providing rapid transfer of large quantities of ammunition under intense battlefield conditions. It has integral Ammunition Handling Equipment (AHE). Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) protection, Auxillary Power Unit (APU), automatic fire suppression system, fording capability and is air transportable. Excludes CARRIER, CARGO and CARRIER, CARGO, AMPHIBIOUS.

CARRIER,SMOKE GENERATOR

An armored amphibious carrier specially designed to transport a GENERATOR, SMOKE MECHANICAL and a crew to operate the generator.

CARRIER HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENT EQUIPMENT,REMOTE CONTROL

A self-propelled tracked vehicle equipped with television cameras, mechanical grabs and the like. It is designed for removal and/or detonation or neutralization of improvised explosives. It may include mounting provisions to accommodate automatic firing weapons used in riot control situations.

TANK,MINE CLEARING,FULL TRACKED

A self-propelled, heavily armored vehicle without a fully enclosed revolving turret and major weapon. The vehicle is specifically designed for breaching, proofing, and marking a cleared lane through minefields by use of mine clearing charges, detachable mine rollers and a cleared lane marking system. The vehicle has the capability of being manually (crew) or remotely controlled.

ARMORED MAINTENANCE VEHICLE

A full tracked, armored vehicle equipped to carry tools, repair parts; Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) with capability of transporting a maintenance crew to combat area for the purpose of repair and maintenance functions of the armored vehicle system. Vehicle is equipped with a rear mounted apparatus consisting of a moveable projecting arm to assist in positioning item for field repair operations which is supported by a Hydraulic/Air Compressed type device, used to steady crane type apparatus, while performing maintenance functions.

ARMORED GUN SYSTEM

A lightly armored, self-propelled vehicle, mounting a direct-fire 105mm gun with both kinetic energy and chemical energy kill capacity, against hardened targets, personnel, and threat armor. The system is designed to provide mobile, protected and accurate assault gun capability for airborne infantry and light infantry support.

CARRIER,AIR-ANTITANK DEFENSE MISSILE SYSTEM

An armored, full tracked carrier which has been modified to transport a self-contained air and/or antitank defense missile system. Excludes CARRIER (1), AIR DEFENSE MISSILE SYSTEM.

BREACHER,COMPLEX OBSTACLE,FULL TRACKED

An Engineering Vehicle (GRIZZLY), with a full-width Mine Clearing Blade, (MCB) and a Power Driven Arm (PDA). It is capable of breaching complex obstacles, minefields, antitank ditches, post, rubble, and wire.

CARRIER,COMMAND POST,ARTICULATED

A carrier with a driven tracked trailer. The two units are coupled by an articulated join through which a drive shaft supplies power to the rear unit. The front unit can be detached from the rear unit for independent operation,when coupled steering is accomplished by a relative displacement of the two units effected by hydraulic cylinders. The vehicle is designed for airborne and amphibious employment for all-season off-road movement over various types of difficult terrain under extreme climatic conditions. It is designed to be used as a command post and/or observation vehicle. It may be equipped with office supplies, filing equipment, communication system, observation and range finding facilities. It may also incorporate a GENERATOR (as modified).

ARMORED RECONNAISSANCE-AIRBORNE ASSAULT VEHICLE

A self-propelled lightly armored, amphibious vehicle, designed for airdrop missions in support of combat infantry and reconnaissance operations. It must have a 360 degree revolving turret, mounting a major weapon. Excludes TANK, COMBAT, FULL TRACKED; and GUN, ANTITANK, SELF-PROPELLED.

CARRIER,COMMAND POST

A lightly armored full tracked carrier with or without amphibious capability. It is designed to be used as a command post and/or observation vehicle. It may be equipped with office supplies, mapping equipment, communication system, observation and range finding facilities. It also may incorporate a GENERATOR (1), (as modified).

CARRIER,UTILITY,ARTICULATED

A carrier with a specifically designed driven tracked trailer. The units are coupled by an articulated joint through which a drive shaft supplies power to the rear unit. The front unit can be detached from the rear unit for independent operation. Steering is accomplished, when coupled, by a relative displacement of the two units through hydraulic cylinders. The vehicle is designed for airborne-amphibious use and for all-season off-road movement over various types of difficult terrain under extreme climatic conditions.

COMBAT ENGINEER VEHICLE,FULL TRACKED

A self-propelled armored vehicle, utilizing a combat tank chassis, designed to accomplish essential pioneer tasks within combat areas. Includes a demolition gun in a revolving turret and attachments, such as winch(es), boom(s), bulldozer, and A-frame. It may have provisions for special attachments, such as mine exploder, mine detector, or mine laying devices. Excludes TANK, COMBAT, FULL TRACKED.

TRAILER-TRACTOR,TRACKED,CARGO-PERSONNEL

A specially designed self-propelled vehicle, consisting of a full-tracked trailer attached to a full-tracked tractor; the trailer or tractor is not capable of functioning separately. The combination may have provisions for powering the rear tracks. It is designed to carry both cargo and personnel.

CARRIER,COMMAND AND RECONNAISSANCE

A lightly armored carrier designed for airdrop missions and capable of carrying a driver and three (3) fully equipped men. It serves as a security, command and reconnaissance vehicle and as a light weapons carrier. Excludes CARRIER, CARGO, AMPHIBIOUS and CARRIER, PERSONNEL, FULL TRACKED.

COMBAT VEHICLE,MECHANIZED INFANTRY

A self-propelled, full tracked, armored vehicle having primary and secondary armament. It contains firing ports, ball mounts, and an inclosed turret. Vision devices provide for all around surveillance and/or ground orientation. It may have inherent swimming capability and it may provide an environment for personnel to live in the vehicle for a limited amount of time while extreme temperatures and/or chemical, bacterial, and radiological agents are present outside. It is designed to provide protected firing positions for a limited amount of fully equipped personnel.

ANTI-PERSONNEL MINE CLEARING SYSTEM,REMOTE CONTROL

A self-propelled tracked vehicle equipped only for remote control. It is designed for the detonation and or neutralization of anti-personnel mines; using flails, chains or the like. It may or may not include mounting devices for automatic firing weapons or additional armor. Is not required to be operated by qualified EOD personnel. Excludes: CARRIER HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENT EQUIPMENT, REMOTE CONTROL and TANK, MINE CLEARING, FULL TRACKED.

CARRIER,ADVANCED MEDICAL TREATMENT

An armored carrier designed and equipped for rendering advanced trauma care and treatment as well as transporting wounded and severely injured personnel. For vehicles designed to provide basic first aid and transportation of wounded personnel see CARRIER, AMBULANCE.

UNMANNED VEHICLE,GROUND

A wheeled or tracked vehicle not controlled by onboard personnel. It may be operated by such methods as the following: remotely by use of cable or wireless signals, or autonomously from programmed mission data which may incorporate artificial intelligence or a combination of the two types. The vehicle may be configured for any of various roles including, but not limited to transport, surveillance, combat, mine detection and/or neutralization, and the like.

MINE CLEARING VEHICLE

A self-propelled vehicle, utilizing a flail type mechanism to dispose of energetics in any mines within the flailed area.

CAR,ARMORED

A wheeled motor vehicle with protective armor plate designed for combat use and usually equipped with armament. See also TRUCK, ARMORED.

TRUCK,VAN

A truck with a cab not integral with the inclosed body, designed to protect cargo and equipment from the elements, pilferage, and/or to provide working quarters for personnel. It may be insulated, have windows, lighting, and/or ventilation. Excludes TRUCK, PANEL.

TRUCK TRACTOR

A self-propelled wheeled vehicle designed to tow and partially support a semitrailer by means of a fifth wheel-type coupler. See also TRUCK TRACTOR, WRECKER.

TRUCK,WRECKER

A truck with an integral mounted crane boom(s), stationary or revolving, fixed or telescoping, on a chassis or articulated unit. This vehicle is designed for on- or off-the-highway use, primarily for the recovery of disabled vehicles or equipment. The power for crane operations is provided by the truck engine. The rear wheels may be powered by a chain, and electric, hydraulic, and/or air motor(s), or conventional drive. Excludes CRANE, TRUCK MOUNTED.

TRUCK,COMMAND RECONNAISSANCE

A truck equipped with an open body, fabric top, and automobile type seats designed specifically to transport command and reconnaissance personnel in the field.

TRUCK,UTILITY

A truck with an open body, usually with fabric top and usually equipped with removable seat(s) transverse to its longitudinal axis, designed to transport light cargo.

TRUCK,AMBULANCE

A truck designed to transport sick or wounded personnel. If the body type is "Panel" or "Van", it is usually equipped with rear loading door(s). Excludes AUTOMOBILE, AMBULANCE; and MINE RESISTANT VEHICLE.

TRUCK,BOMB SERVICE

A truck, usually with a platform or cargo type body, equipped with a monorail mounting hoist or hydraulic lifting boom, designed to lift and/or transport bombs.

TRUCK,CARGO

A truck with either a box type body or a body having integral sides and front panel mounted on a chassis or articulated unit. It usually consists of a flat loading platform, tailgate, removable top bows, and tarpaulin. It may include side extensions or stakes. The rear wheels may be powered by a chain, an electric, hydraulic, and/or air motor(s), or conventional drive.

TRUCK,BOLSTER

A truck equipped with a cradlelike support, fixed or swivel, mounted horizontally on the chassis frame. It is designed for transporting long or irregularly shaped loads, such as poles, logs, pipes, or structural members.

TRUCK,STAKE

A truck with a body having readily removable stakes which may be tied together with chains, slats, panels, and the like. It may include a tailgate or loading ramp. Excludes TRUCK, FLATBED.

LANDING VEHICLE,WHEELED

A self-propelled wheeled vehicle designed to transport cargo and/or personnel on land and water.

TRUCK,MATERIALS HANDLING-CONTAINER HOISTING

A truck equipped with a power driven hydraulic hoist and boom(s) designed for lifting, lowering, transporting and dumping assorted removable containers. GUN,FIELD ARTILLERY,SELF-PROPELLED

A complete projectile-firing weapon mounted on a self-propelled vehicle. It is designed for use as a mobile artillery weapon.

TRUCK,PLATFORM,UTILITY

A truck without a cab or driver's compartment, having the controls and driver's seat mounted on the platform body. The controls may be adjustable to permit the driver to operate the vehicle while walking. It may have troop seat(s) as an integral part of the body which folds flush with the platform when not in use. It may also have all-wheel drive and selective front or all-wheel steering.

LIGHT ARMORED VEHICLE

A self-propelled, wheeled, lightly armored, combat vehicle, with or without major and/or secondary armament. It is designed to rapidly deploy personnel, cargo, and the like for combat and tactical operations. It may have amphibious and off-the-road capability. Excludes CARRIER (as modified), TRUCK (as modified), and CAR, ARMORED.

ARMORED SECURITY VEHICLE

A self-propelled armored tactical vehicle designed to provide survivability and firepower to military police units operating in volatile environments. It can hard-bottom deep water ford, but is not amphibious. It has a 360 degree revolving turret for mounting major and/or secondary armament.

CAR,ARMORED,MINE DISPOSAL

A rough terrain wheeled armored vehicle used to carry up to eight countermine personnel and their equipment to and from sights where land mines are suspected or known to be placed. It is designed not only to protect it's crew ballistically, but also from land mine detonations. It is also used for sight detention of land mines and command control of route clearance countermine taskforce.

GROUND SENSOR SURVEILLANCE VEHICLE

A stand alone vehicle containing an integrated mobile ground sensor monitoring platform which produces sensor activity reports. It combines data and presents a real time picture of the battlefield. It also provides accurate targeting information reports, intelligence reports and threat alerts. It has integrated communication and data collection equipment that uses the vehicle's power and mobile capability to operate. It also contains permanently mounted, non removable computer peripherals.

MINE RESISTANT VEHICLE

A self propelled vehicle designed for combat with a mine resistant "V" shaped hull.

MINE DETECTOR SYSTEM,VEHICLE MOUNTED

A system designed to detect metal-cased Improvised Explosive Devices and antitank mines on routes. It consists of a lead mine detection vehicle, and may include a towing vehicle, mine detonation trailers, two spear wheel modules, and a spare parts storage container and spares not deployed with the rest of the system

MINE DETECTOR SUBSYSTEM,VEHICLE MOUNTED

An item or group of items which is a part of a MINE DETECTOR SYSTEM,VEHICLE MOUNTED. It may consist of a towing vehicle, a mine detonation trailer, a towing vehicle and a mine detonation trailer, and the like. UTILITY MODULE,VEHICULAR

An interchangeable unit designed to carry out a variety of utility missions and provide maximum flexibility for a vehicle chassis. Each unit incorporates its own primary safety cell.

TRUCK,DUMP

A truck with an open top metal body mounted on a chassis or articulated unit having an integral front panel which may include a cab protector. The metal side panels may be hinged or fitted into grooves which restrict the loss of fine materials, such as sand, gravel, or the like and may have provisions for the attachment of solid side extensions. It may have either a hinged type tailgate with or without a chute opening or a sloped back. It must have a manual or power operated body tilting mechanism to facilitate discharge of its load by gravity. TRUCK,BOMB SERVICE

A truck, usually with a platform or cargo type body, equipped with a monorail mounting hoist or hydraulic lifting boom, designed to lift and/or transport bombs.

A truck equipped with a cargo positioning chock, removable compartmant boxes, and a superstructure which forms an overhead trolley rail(s). The vehicle is designed to load, unload, and transport drums and containers of chemical agents.

TRUCK,CARGO

A truck with either a box type body or a body having integral sides and front panel mounted on a chassis or articulated unit. It usually consists of a flat loading platform, tailgate, removable top bows, and tarpaulin. It may include side extensions or stakes. The rear wheels may be powered by a chain, an electric, hydraulic, and/or air motor(s), or conventional drive.

TRUCK,MULTISTOP DELIVERY

A truck with a panel type body having an integral cab with full length doors enabling operator to enter and exit in an erect position, designed for door to door delivery.

TRUCK,HOPPER

A truck equipped with a body containing compartments which usually taper to their bottom where an opening is provided for the unloading of loose bulk material from the compartment(s) by gravity. It may have an internal conveyor to facilitate unloading. Excludes TRUCK, DUMP.

TRUCK,BOLSTER

A truck equipped with a cradlelike support, fixed or swivel, mounted horizontally on the chassis frame. It is designed for transporting long or irregularly shaped loads, such as poles, logs, pipes, or structural members.

A truck equipped with hydraulic operated lifting boom, designed to be used with another vehicle of similar design to lift and transport heavy artillery.

A truck without a cab or driver's compartment, having the controls and driver's seat mounted on the platform body. The controls may be adjustable to permit the driver to operate the vehicle while walking. It may have troop seat(s) as an integral part of the body which folds flush with the platform when not in use. It may also have all-wheel drive and selective front or all-wheel steering.

TRUCK,TIRE SERVICING

A self contained unit for servicing pneumatic tires used on vehicles and construction equipment. Consists of a truck chassis on which is mounted a hydraulic operated boom and an air compressor. TRUCK,AIRCRAFT CARGO LOADING-UNLOADING

A truck with an adjustable platform body equipped with free moving rollers, specifically designed to facilitate the loading and unloading of palletized cargo and transporting same between air terminal storage areas and high and low floor cargo aircraft and vice versa. A four wheeled platform type trailer equipped with seats for transporting personnel. It has a coupler at one or both ends for connecting to trailers and/or towing by another vehicle.

SEMITRAILER,MINE TRANSPORTER

A semitrailer having a low bed with two attached rails, and a gasoline engine driven winch mounted on the gooseneck. It is specifically designed for self-loading flanged wheel mounted mines.

A van type trailer equipped with pneumatic tired wheels. Designed to provide work space, storage for tools and repair parts, living and sleeping facilities for personnel performing maintenance and repair on railway equipment.

A multi-axle trailer without load carrying platform, sides or end gate.
